Our Commitment: Delicious Food from Wholesome Ingredients
 |
| Ron, Cynthia, Diana and Steven |
We began to make food for others out of our home kitchen, first bread,
then gomashios – traditional Japanese condiments made from roasted
and ground sesame seeds – we call ours Sesame
Sprinkles. This suited us because we could earn livelihood close to
home while feeling we were making a positive, welcome contribution to
others. In 1994 we built a small commercial kitchen at the edge of our
large garden, and we have been expanding our business ever since.
When one of our daughters returned to our land with her family, we
expanded the business and began producing our Végé
Pâté. We deepened our commitment to organic ingredients,
locally grown. The farther we go with this commitment, the more we find
ourselves part of a rapidly growing community. There are a number of
us, here in the Kootenay-Boundary area of southern British Columbia,
working together building on each others’ strengths and discovering
joint solutions to our challenges. There is hunger for food produced
with commitment to good flavour and good values. It is happy work responding
to that hunger.
Before we begin working in the kitchen each day, we spend a quiet moment
in meditation (see below). We are convinced this practice makes a difference
in the flavour and quality of the foods we produce. These thoughts form
the foundation for everything we do in our kitchen.

Meditation
I come to you, the one to whom I now pray,
The one whose means are mercy,
To ask blessings on my work in this kitchen.
May harmony be present.
May loving kindness be present.
May I work mindfully and carefully.
May the food I produce create health and happiness.
I give thanks for the opportunity to earn
My livelihood here today.
