Local Food Producers Win 2005 BC Organic Harvest Award

The Certified Organic Associations of BC (COABC) hosted it’s Organic Harvest 2005 Awards in Vancouver this month to honour BC producers of Organic Foods. Kootenay Kitchen won Best Processed Product (Vegetarian) for its line of Végé Pâtés. Kootenay Kitchen is a certified organic food processor located in Fife, above Christina Lake and has been operating since 1990.

“We are honoured and excited to be recognized by the Agency that sets the standards for Organic Agriculture and Food Production in BC.” says Ron Liddle. Ron, and family members Diana Carr, and Cynthia Howard are thrilled with their success so far and very curious about what is around the next corner for their business. Diana Carr reports that, “I am inspired to cross our yard to the Kitchen and work in a space surrounded by beauty, and know that people love what we produce. We often receive unsolicited messages of gratitude and appreciation for our pâté.”

Kootenay Kitchen produces delicious, nutritious food in accordance with certified organic principles. Packaging made from recycled materials, using certified organic ingredients sourced as close to home as possible, and composting all vegetable waste are examples of how Kootenay Kitchen operates. The Végé Pâté comes in three flavours: Herb, Jalapeno and Curry. The Pâté is certified vegan (no animal products) and is 84% certified organic. The oil used in the recipes is Extra Virgin Olive oil. The Pâté is free of soy, wheat, gluten, preservatives, and colourings.

Kootenay Kitchen ships Pâté and other products every week to natural foods wholesalers for distribution throughout Western Canada. Their goal is to have Kootenay Kitchen Végé Pâté available Canada wide. In Grand Forks you will find their Pâté at Buy Low and New West Trading, and in Christina Lake, at Huckleberry Market and Butcher Block.
