Sesame Sprinkles

In Japanese “goma” means “sesame” and "shio" means "salt". Gomashio has been used in their cuisine for centuries. It is as common in Japanese households to find Gomashio on the meal table, as it is to find a saltshaker on the meal table of Western homes.

Traditional Gomashio - simply organic sesame roasted with a much heavier concentration of salt.

Sea Vegetable Sesame Sprinkle - the same recipe as Traditional Gomashio, plus added nutrition from Kelp and Dulse, with a dash of Tamari soysauce. Sprinkle on cooked grains, potatoes, popcorn, eggs, rice, salads - anywhere you would use salt but want some extra flavour.

Salt-Free Sea Vegetable Sesame Sprinkle - organic, unhulled, sesame seed roasted with dulse and kelp and a little dash of Soya. People on a salt reduced diet love it for the extra flavour it gives to rice, potatoes, salads, veggies etc. It is also wonderful on fruit salads, puddings, and ice cream.

What’s the difference between the three flavors?

Traditional Gomashio

  • time honoured recipe – simply roasted and ground sesame seed and salt
  • has the highest concentration of salt in the salt to sesame ration
  • Use as a condiment anywhere you would typically use salt – on rice or other cooked grains, eggs etc.
  • In Japanese: goma means sesame, and shio means salt

Sea Vegetable Sesame Sprinkle

  • less salt than Traditional
  • sea vegetables (kelp and dulse) and a splash of tamari (soy sauce) give added flavour and nutrition

Salt-Free Sea Vegetable Sesame Sprinkle

  • sesame seeds, kelp, dulse and a splash of tamari – no salt added
  • great on desserts as well as main course dishes
